Madelon Sprengnether<\/strong>\u00a0is a poet, memoirist, literary critic, and Regents Professor Emerita of the University of Minnesota. Her recent publications include\u00a0Great River Road: Memoir and\u00a0Memory<\/a><\/em>\u00a0(New Rivers Press, 2015),\u00a0Near Solstice: Prose Poems\u00a0<\/em>(Holy Cow! Press, 2015), and\u00a0Mourning\u00a0Freud<\/a><\/em>\u00a0(Bloomsbury 2018). \u00a0<\/p>

She is the author of three memoirs,\u00a0Great River Road, Crying at the Movies<\/em>, and\u00a0Rivers, Stories, Houses,\u00a0Dreams<\/a><\/em>, and three collections of poetry,\u00a0Near Solstice: Prose Poems<\/em>,\u00a0The Angel of Duluth<\/em>, and\u00a0The Normal Heart<\/em>.<\/p>

She is also a feminist psychoanalytic critic whose collections of criticism,\u00a0The (M)other Tongue: Essays in Feminist Psychoanalytic Interpretation<\/em>, and\u00a0Shakespearean Tragedy and\u00a0Gender<\/a><\/em>, have had a major impact in their fields. Her book\u00a0The Spectral Mother: Freud,\u00a0<\/em>Feminism<\/em>, and\u00a0Psychoanalysis<\/a><\/em>\u00a0was the first to probe Freud\u2019s phobic responses to the figure of the mother in his life and theory.<\/p>

She is a graduate of the New Directions: Writing with a Psychoanalytic Edge Program in Washington, D.C. and is a member of numerous regional and national organizations\u00a0including the Minnesota Psychoanalytic Society and Institute, the American Psychoanalytic Association, the American Association of Psychoanalysis in Clinical Social Work, and Division 39 of the American Psychological Association.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
